Providing Proof of Age upon delivery

When a shipment requires Proof of Age, the delivery agent completes a visual age verification of the recipient upon delivery. If the receiver appears to be under the age of 25, the agent will request photo identification to confirm their age. A signature is also required. The minimum age requirement is selected by the sender and may vary based on regulations and the shipments contents.

Proof of Age is requested from the individual receiving the package regardless of whether they are the item’s addressee.

Can the concierge at a condominium sign for a delivery?

If the concierge is authorized to receive the item on behalf of the receiver and the concierge meets the Proof of Age requirements, we’ll deliver the package to the concierge. The receiver is responsible for giving the concierge permission to receive deliveries on their behalf.

If the item can’t be delivered, we’ll leave a Delivery Notice Card with the address of the post office and information about how to pick up the package in your mailbox. You will need to bring the Delivery Notice Card, government-issued photo identification and sign for the package before it’s handed to you at the post office.

How are deliveries to university campuses handled?

If there’s a central mail room that’s authorized to receive the item and the individual working at the mail room meets the Proof of Age requirements, we will deliver the package.

Otherwise, we’ll leave a Delivery Notice Card with the address of the post office and information about how you can pick up your package in the mailbox or mailroom. You will need to bring the Delivery Notice Card, government-issued photo identification and sign for the package before it’s handed to you at the post office.

Students without government-issued photo identification matching the address on the package can provide a proof of residency document instead (for example, a school transcript or recent utility bill).

Can a hotel receive deliveries? Can the front desk sign for the package?

Hotels can receive packages on behalf of their registered guests provided the individual at the front desk accepting the delivery meets the Proof of Age requirement.

If the hotel doesn’t accept the package on behalf of their guest, we’ll leave a Delivery Notice Card with the address of the post office and information about how you can pick up your package with the front desk. You will need to bring the Delivery Notice Card, government-issued photo identification along with proof of stay at the hotel and sign for the package at the post office.
