    What is Literature for the Blind?

     

    In support of the visually impaired, our Literature for the Blind service allows specific items used by blind persons to be mailed for free.

    What types of materials can I send?

    • Matter impressed in Braille or similar raised type.
    • Plates for manufacturing matter impressed in Braille or similar raised type.
    • Sound recordings, such as CDs.
    • Sound recordings and special paper if mailed by or addressed to a recognized institution for the blind.

    Mail services

    The free postage applies to:

    • XpresspostTM (in Canada only)
    • Registered mail (in Canada, the U.S. and internationally)

    Label as Literature for the Blind

    To use this service you must add the appropriate label to the upper right-hand corner of the address side of the item (where you would normally place a stamp). There are different labels depending on whether you are mailing within Canada or abroad. Consult the table to find out how to label your package.
